Want to build epic, full-body strength and power? Try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), the perfect way for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes to get commando fit, learn self-defence, and improve balance and co-ordination. Based on grappling and ground fighting techniques, it teaches you how to control and subdue a larger, stronger opponent by harnessing the power of leverage and body mechanics. With more than 60% of street fights ending up on the ground, understanding how to escape a ground-assault scenario is key to effective self-defence.
TO GI OR NOT TO GI?
Traditionally, a ‘gi’ or ‘kimono’ is worn during BJJ training. However, it is now commonplace for academies to also offer ‘No-Gi BJJ’ classes or submission wrestling in their line-up. In ‘No-Gi BJJ’, t-shirts and shorts are worn instead of the typical gi, and as a result different strategy and techniques are taught. Here at Ultimate Fitness Centre, we offer both modalities and suggest you try out both classes to see what works for you.
